Your data, explained
Privacy Policy
This policy explains what information Caterpillar IO processes when you use the mobile app, website, online game, leaderboard, or contact support.
Privacy at a glance
You do not need an account to play. Caterpillar IO does not currently include ads or a third-party analytics SDK, and we do not sell personal information. Online play sends limited gameplay and technical information to our server. Publishing a completed run on the global leaderboard is optional and disabled by default.
Information we process
Online gameplay and leaderboard information
When you play online, we process the nickname you choose, game input and state, score, session duration, and temporary game/session identifiers. Other players in the same room can see your nickname and live score during the active match. Before we store and publicly display your nickname, final score, and run duration on the global leaderboard, you are given a separate choice to opt in. This option is disabled by default. If you do not opt in, those details are not stored in the global leaderboard.
Technical and network information
Our server and hosting infrastructure may process IP address, connection time, request or connection identifiers, error details, and basic request metadata. This is used to operate the online game, prevent abuse, diagnose failures, and keep the service secure.
Support communications
If you email us, we receive your email address and any information or attachments you choose to provide. We use this information only to respond, investigate the issue, and improve the game.
Offline play and device permissions
Offline gameplay is processed locally in the mobile app and is not submitted to the online leaderboard. The current app does not request access to precise location, contacts, camera, microphone, or photos. Internet access is used when you choose online play and to load the online game.
Cookies, local storage, analytics, and advertising
The current Caterpillar IO app and website do not use advertising trackers or a third-party analytics SDK. Our application code does not intentionally set marketing or analytics cookies. The web game may use limited browser storage for development or technical settings, not to build an advertising profile.
Apple, Google, browser vendors, and hosting providers may independently process download, crash, security, or request information under their own terms and privacy policies. If we later add analytics, advertising, or non-essential cookies, we will update this policy and, where required, provide an appropriate consent choice before using them.
Why we use information
- Provide online multiplayer gameplay and show live room rankings.
- With your consent, record and display eligible global leaderboard scores.
- Maintain reliability, security, abuse prevention, and debugging.
- Answer support messages and evaluate feedback or feature requests.
- Comply with applicable legal obligations and enforce our rights.
Where applicable law requires a legal basis, these activities rely on providing the service you request, our legitimate interests in operating and protecting the game, consent where we specifically ask for it, or compliance with law.
Sharing and sale of information
We do not sell or rent personal information. Limited information may be handled by service providers that support hosting, networking, database storage, app distribution, and email. They may process it only to provide those services. We may also disclose information when required by law, to protect users and the service, or as part of a business transfer subject to appropriate safeguards.
Retention and security
Leaderboard entries you choose to publish may be kept while the leaderboard operates or until a verified deletion request is completed. Operational logs are kept only as long as reasonably needed for security and troubleshooting. Support emails are kept while needed to resolve the request and maintain an appropriate support record. We use reasonable technical and organizational safeguards, but no internet service can guarantee absolute security.
Your choices and rights
You can play online without opting in to the global leaderboard, and declining does not limit online gameplay. The leaderboard choice applies to the current online session and is disabled by default when you start a new session. You can also play offline to avoid sending gameplay data to our server and choose a nickname that does not identify you. Depending on where you live, you may have rights to access, correct, delete, restrict, or object to certain processing, or withdraw consent.
To make a request, email devkodapp@gmail.com with the subject “Privacy request.” If the request concerns a leaderboard entry, include the nickname and approximate play date. We may ask for additional information needed to locate the entry or verify the request. For deletion instructions and processing times, visit our Data Deletion page.
Children's privacy
Caterpillar IO is not intended to collect personal information from children. Players should not use a real full name or contact details as a nickname. If you are a parent or guardian and believe a child provided personal information, contact us so we can review and delete it where appropriate.
International processing and policy changes
Service providers may process information in countries other than your own. Where required, we use appropriate safeguards for those transfers. We may update this policy when the game or legal requirements change. The revised date below will show when the latest version took effect.
